Castlemere's Gold Key Program |
No Garb ? No problem !
Shire of Castlemere Gold Key
SCA events require
that those attending make some attempt at pre-17th Century dress. Since this can
be difficult for new members who wish to get involved and attend events right
from the start we are happy to provide
assistance from Gold Key ! You can borrow from Gold Key while
you are new to the SCA, but eventually you are expected to acquire your own
medieval wardrobe and you will want to as well. Gold Key is a starting point for
new members.
Gold Key is medieval clothing (usually referred to as "garb") that an SCA
group keeps for new member use. The Shire of Castlemere has a collection of
simple medieval clothes for men, women, and children. Our loaner clothing comes
in various sizes and we should have something to fit most people but we will
probably not be able to meet most of your wishes for certain colors and/or
styles.
If you are going to eat at feast or plan on other meals rather than just snacks
and/or fingerfoods, you will need your own plate and cutlery. Gold Key also
contains sets of loaner feastware for our new members. In the SCA, you are
expected to bring your own place setting for meals. This means individual groups
do not have to purchase and store hundreds of place settings in order to host an
event feast, we get to avoid extra expenses for paper products and you add
immensely to the medieval atmosphere at all events. How to arrange a Gold
Key Loan and Gold Key Policies
To borrow garb and feastware from our group's Gold Key, contact our New
Member Contact also known as the Hospitaller to make arrangements.
Please review the following Gold Key policies:
- Please request the needed loaner clothing and feastware as soon as
possible so we have an easy time handing over the items before an event
- Items borrowed from Gold Key are to be returned by the date noted on the
Gold Key Loan Agreement. Please don't make the Hospitaller chase you!
- We require a $10 Replacement Deposit in form of a check made out to "SCA
Inc. - Shire of Castlemere" without date but with your driver license number
on the back. We will only cash the check if you fail to return the borrowed
items by the agreed date or damage them beyond repair. Otherwise we will
return the original check to you.
- Borrowed clothing is to be laundered before return.
- Items should be returned in good repair. In other words: you rip it, you
fix it (or buy it).
- Any hemming or alterations should not be permanent and are to be removed
before return.
- All feastware is to be returned clean.
